Shell Oil, Intro Lunch, 9/4

Shell Oil, Motiva Enterprises

September 4, 2019

I have a lunch with the representative of Shell Oil, actually Motiva Enterprises since they represent more than one brand.  For some Shell is the most recognizable brand. I am in conversations with Shell in an attempt to obtain a suppler relationship with Shell.  We want to brand some of the stores we are acquiring Shell. These supplier agreements are called Petroleum Marketing Agreements.  The agreement will give my company the right to sell Shell-branded or 76-branded fuel through our company-owned stores and create dealer relationships and sell branded fuel to those dealers.

To give a little context to the meeting and how important it is, here is the email chain settiing up the meeting:

How about Tex-Mex? Uncle Julio’s on Lemmon? 12:30p?

Let me know if that works.

Hey,

Thanks for the feedback on these stores. The historical perspective is very helpful and needed.  Let’s find some time for lunch. What day will work for you?

Our plan is for all these stores to be company-owned.  There is a bit of a weird mix going on now with the current ownership.  It is no wonder the operating results and “image” are lacking.  We will renovate each store and I’m certain our imaging/redo will exceed the standards for Shell.  I have attached what we did with a couple of our Conoco stores.  The “before” on one was under Conoco ownership, believe it or not. They had let a group of stores deteriorate.  We acquired these and the result is what you see.

Let’s huddle and talk through the information you have, our plans and discuss what options we have.

Best,

mln

Marcus- Thank you very much for sending me the prospect list. I reviewed the site list and found that the majority of these sites have already been presented to us for branding and have been turned down in the past. Reasons range from conflict, station quality, and volume.  I also noted that at least 2 of the sites listed were former Shell locations that were de branded due to the site not meeting our image standards. The volume listed for those sites was really over stated as well. Most of these sites were run by a company call East Texas Energy. Most anything that one of my wholesalers branded thru them that I had knowledge of, did not seem to go well for them.

If you would like to have lunch to discuss further, or have other ideas, I am certainly agreeable to that. Just let me know.

Thanks so much- AW

Here is a Dropbox link with the store profiles (& list).  If you can’t access the Dropbox for whatever reason, let me know and we will try something else.

Good morning- I have been working with a wholesale prospect Marcus Nelson, with Braeswood Capital. He has a list of prospect sites that he wants me to review but he first wants me to sign the attached NDA prior to seeing them. Could you please advise me on this one and let me know if it is ok to sign or do we have something else that we could give him.  Also, please point in the right direction if I need to go to someone else.

 Thanks- AW

As you can see, this lunch is important. The goal is to keep the conversation going about the possibility of the having Shell as one of our suppliers.

I have a similar meeting with Chevron on September 11th.  Chevron has two brands as well, Chevron and Texaco.
